Nice and short report - and loved all the photos. Yes it most definitely looks different than our canoe country :) I don't think I could do the river running but I know you had fun - good for you. Hope to see you again at the next copia :-) And i know that i'll see ya in chat....later

Nice report...I got to fish the snake between Merritt and the Niorobrara river twice in high school with a friend and his family. Two trips and I only caught 1 17 inch rainbow, but I did see about a 5lb brown trout caught and several other fish. It is amazing country there...almost rivals canoe country in those canyones.

My first job with the USFWS was at Valentine National Wildlife Refuge in the Sandhills of Nebraska. That was back in 1965. The sandhills are a beautiful place to be. I know that there is a lot of canoeing on the Niobrara River near Valentine.

They sure are cute when they are that age!
Joy is a great teacher, but so is dispair. Wonder is a great teacher, but so is confusion. Hope is a great teacher, but so is disillusionment. And life is a great teacher, but so is death. To deny yourself any of those in any aspect is not experiencing life totally.

Paul, is that your son in the 3rd from last picture?
I'm not sure I would have been going over some of those falls! ;-) Did that cause much of the swamping? Lose any gear? I did notice the bungie-corded coolers...a wise decision.
Beautiful country! But then you know how I like Nebraska...away from the interstate, anyway.

Nola,
That is Daniel my 24 year old son who lives in Florida.
We only lost both our chairs, my survivor boonie hat also did not survive. We had the coolers and CCS packs strapped in with ratchet straps and also bungies for back up....but the bungies didnt hold the chairs in (crap).

Only Trees are in the river bottom... God made that country for Cattle and Cobwoys, Antelope, Jack Rabbits, and Rattlesnakes.
(and Crazy Canoe folk) :)
Beautiful place if you spend any time there as it is a different sort of Region.
