Just got back home from a 3-day weekend trip in through Hog Creek to Perent Lake.

Twas a little chilly heading in as the ground was freshly "frosted" and there was still some ice skim holding sway in the backwater pockets away from the main channel. There were countless beaver dams to negotiate but all were easily paddled over, and I was actually able to successfully run the small set of rapids to avoid that portage.

I didn't get to paddle/explore as much as I'd hoped as it was quite windy Saturday & then again more so yesterday. It was nothing too crazy but, the wind has a way of quickly sapping my energy when it blows up that chilly lake water so, I wasn't inclined to push my luck. However, it was calm coming out this morning and I slightly varied off the straight-line route as I exited. To my utter amazement, there was actually someone else camped on the lake! (They must've come in Sunday?)

On my drive home I stopped in at the Happy Wanderer in Isabella for a couple of beers & a bit to eat.

All in all, was happy to make the most of the time allotted and get the gear dusted off and ready for another season.

Nice, I spent a few days there last year with the BW Rangers, we checked on almost every campsite. What site did you stay at?

Site #992 located on the large peninsula in the southern end of the lake. 3rd site in from the Creek on the south shore.

I didn’t explore much either when I was camped Lake One this weekend. On Friday I put on a lot of steps just walking the trails on my island campsite. Around and around in circles. I was able to get out in the canoe in Saturday and stay out of the wind and explore some campsites. Saturday felt way warmer than Friday because the sun was out.

I laughed a lot on Saturday because there was a weather alert for high fire danger with a real feel temperature of 17 and snow on the ground.

Glad you had fun. It was great to get into the bwca for a few days.
