In the planning stages for this years BWCA trip and one of the items needing crossed off is where to grab a quick shower for the drive back to Iowa. Exiting Isabella Lake (entry 35) and the plan is to take Highway 1 out. Anything relatively close to my exit lake that offers showers? Something I would like to avoid is back tracking all the way to Ely.

Try Wildhurst campground right on Hwy 1 few miles north of Finland

It won't help you, but for others, when we do gunflint trips, we shower in the RV park on lake superior right in Grand Marais. They have a couple different shower buildings. We like the one by the ball field, a little southeast of the main office. I think they charge $4 a person.

This RV park has showers, I'd check with them. They should be very near silver bay.

Our crew does the same when we're coming out from a Gunflint trip. Nice and clean.

No, you can’t. I checked on this the last time this came up. The facilities are exclusively for registered campers.

Lots of options:
1) Roll the windows down and embrace the stink
2) Depending on what time of year it is, I'd just find a boat launch at a lake on your way and jump in and rinse off. Put on some clean clothes and you're good to go
3) If you're intent on a real hot shower, and taking Hwy 1 to 61 and heading back towards Iowa, stop at 1 of the 3 state parks on the way (Tett, Split Rock and Gooseberry). Pay for a day pass ($7/car) and go use the showers in the campground

Yup I like to be clean and appropriate when I leave for home. I take a paper bag with clean shorts, shirt and so on to change into for the ride home and i leave it in the car. I just jump in for a swim at my exit point.
