Where can I find a quality replacement for my 1990 REI Geodome 3? That 4 season bugger was phenomenally sturdy, spacious, and not really too heavy. Served me well for 30+ years. Have looked around and see nothing even close. Please help!

Here you go. The Original four season dome. In Himalayan base camps everywhere.

Thanks for the suggestion. I am aware of the higher priced tents like the NF you mention. I guess I'm stuck in the mindset that my bulletproof REI tent was in the mid to modest price range when purchased, and would like to replicate that buying experience.

Not sure how set you are on the 3p but I did see an original geodome 2p on eBay, listed as NOS, supposedly never used. Don’t fix what ain’t broke? Might be worth a look.

Sorry, don’t have any insight on a newer alternative.

An excellent choice but not the original. Here is the original on South Kawishiwi River last March:

I bought this VE-24 in 1985. It saw its first winter use that year on the Iditarod Trail, where I watched the mushers pass within view. Libby Riddles won that year.

Here’s a review of the same. The VE-25 includes a vestibule not available with the VE-24. It is an improvement worth having.

TNF VE-24 Reviews.

BUY THE DAMN TENT AND SLEEP SOUNDLY!!!

I had a VE-25 about 30 years ago. Was certainly a bomber tent, but it was too much tent, and too heavy (backpacking mostly back then)…

I could bring five of my current tent for the same weight.

If the original were still being produced, I'd seriously consider. Unfortunately, as many of the reviewers mention, the newer version is by far an inferior tent yet TNF still sells at premium price. TNF quality has tanked along many of their product lines.

I have had this one for almost 20 years and has kept me dry and warm every time out. Have never used anything underneath or a tarp over the top.
