Going to be on Gaskin for 2-3 days in September. Never camped on this site before. Curious if anyone could point me in the best area of the lake to fish for wallies and bass?

I just spent 3 days of my trip fishing on Gaskin. My first time on the lake so not sure if my info will help you. I target bass so can’t help with walleye but have heard the weeds in the mouth of the bay leading to Winchell portage is good place to try. I did ok catching bass but windy conditions made fishing hard as a solo. Most of the bass I caught were pretty decent size. Bass were in all the usual places, Rocky points,Rocky islands and rock piles. Fished mostly in mid lake area near Mondale site and areas around portage to Horseshoe lake.

I do an early September trip every year and find the bass are deeper that time of year. My rule of thumb is to position my canoe like I’m going to fish shore then cast either straight out in front or towards deeper water. Weighted Senkos and tube jigs are my favorite baits to use. I did get a few on flukes this trip but hard to fish in the wind. Early morning and evening topwater can also produce.
Good luck and have a great trip!

I've only fished Gaskin for a day and a half in June so don't think I can help you too much either... It is a really cool lake and area and I would like to get back at some point. We did decent for Walleye and Smallmouth on our trip but they will be in very different locations in September versus our trip in June. We caught SMB along shore structure and pinch points between islands and land. Walleyes in 8-12 FOW in morning or evening. I'm guessing everything will be much deeper in September. I'd fish 15-25 FOW. Start on one end of that depth and work deeper or shallower to find fish. Lots of structure in that lake to fish.
