Anyone use a canoe storage bag? I have a Mad River Kevlar with a painted gel-coat (I think) and I’m thinking to store it under the cabin on a rack. The canoe will be out of the rain and snow; the bag will be for UV and dust protection. Is it okay to store this boat out in the cold under these conditions? Would the bag create moisture issues? I don’t have a separate suitable building for storage, so this is my next best solution. Thoughts?
I've had no issues storing mine under our deck using the Whitewater Design Tyvek covers sold at Boundary Waters Catalog/Piragis. There's a picture in my gallery of the setup. Works well for our limited space situation. As long as you're well off the ground it should be fine. Rodents chewing on bits might be a concern. Only draw back here is twice the Carolina Wrens have built nests on the seats. Cheers! martian
All conservation of wildness is self-defeating, for to cherish we must see and fondle, and when enough have seen and fondled, there is no wilderness left to cherish. Aldo Leopold
I’ve used the tyvek bags with success but they do wear out after a while if wind moves them around. The Redleaf designs bags are really fantastic. We have one on our tandem sea kayak. Each bag is custom made. They have the measurements for many canoes and it isn’t hard to make measurements for your own boat. I’m planning to get one for one of my solos.
