Spring Migration has begun!!!
I was out with the dogs this afternoon and heard the sound of Red Wing Blackbirds. True to form they are the first to show up every year here in NW Indiana.

Migration in NE GA is still the other direction! We are getting a huge explosion of pine siskins moving south and east out of the cold. January 1 there were no siskins here. Now there are hundreds at the feeder. North Georgia also has quite a few sightings of evening grosbeaks this winter.

Robins: my wife saw 2 today. We have 2+ feet of snow on the ground, will probably have 2.5 – 3 feet by tomorrow, and the wind chill tonight will be -4 deg F. I don't know what those birds are eating; they are not seed eaters as far as I know.

As I look out my patio slider here in southern Minnesota, I see 2 robins. First sighting this year.
Yesterday we had overcast and 3" of snow accumulated. Today, partly sunny and temps hovering around 40. Very nice.
I am home all week so I will be on the sharp lookout for other seasonal changes in my "neck of the woods".

airmorse: "I saw and heard a flock of Sand Hill Cranes when I was doing yard work this afternoon.
Spring is close!"
I’ll see your Sandhill Cranes at 41.49° N and raise ya a pair of Trumpeter Swans headed north yesterday at 46.81° N. :-)

Ha!!! Funny you should say that. Walking the dogs this morning in the hood i saw 4 Trumpeter Swans headed north.
They fly fast. ;-)

Saw nine American White Pelicans this morning on the St. Louis River in Duluth, opposite the Boy Scout Landing. While I'm thinking about how to get a picture at that distance with just my iPhone, about 150 Tundra Swans in a huge V passed overhead. My wife saw our first Goldfinches on Park Point; the males were in brilliant plumage.

Waiting on hummingbirds and orioles in the Twin Cities. Put out a bluebird house in my backyard this year, but none so far. Wondering if I will have any luck with the bluebirds or if I am dreaming given my small, suburban loaction.

Moorhead Mn. Orioles at the feeder yesterday, put hummingbird feeders out, lots of Finches, Cardinals have been frequent to the feeders, more this year than last.
Put up nesting boxes for the Chickadees, Nuthatches, the Chickadees are the only ones showing interested. Waiting for Martins, 3rd year I've had the houses out, maybe this is the year?
